Welcome to worship at Faith Lutheran Church in Brantford which is located on what was designated in 1784 as the Haldimand Tract, traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples. We are committed to talking about and participating in truth and reconciliation.
This morning we gather in the name of God, creator, redeemer, and sustainer of the Earth and all its creatures.

P: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

P: Joined to Christ in the waters of baptism,
We are clothed with God’s mercy and forgiveness.
Let us give thanks for the gift of baptism.
Water is poured into the baptismal font.
P: We give you thanks, O God,
C: for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters
and by your Word you created the world,
calling forth life in which you took delight.
P: Through the waters of the flood, you delivered Noah and his family. Through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river, your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit.
C: By Water and your word, you claim us as daughters and sons, making us heirs of your promise and servants of all.
P: We praise you for the gift of water that sustains life, and above all we
praise you for the gift of new life in Jesus Christ. Shower us with your Spirit, and renew our lives with your forgiveness, grace, and love.
To you be given honour and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Let us pray together,
God our creator, your son offers true life to all the peoples of earth. By your holy spirit, kindle in us the fire of your love, empowering our lives for service and our tongues for praise. We pray this in Jesus name.

Info: Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he told his disciples they would be filled with the Holy Spirit. Now, surrounded by signs of fire, wind, and a variety of languages, the people are amazed at Jesus’ promise coming true.
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
Now there were devout Jews from every people under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language?All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”But others sneered and said, “They are filled with new wine.”

Info: Though the disciples struggle with Jesus’ nature and identity, they receive the promise that they too will be identified with God and God’s mission. Though he must leave them now, Jesus promises the coming of the Advocate whom God will send to comfort and enlighten them.
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

Trusting in God’s promise, we pray for the renewal of the world, the church, and all of creation.
Come Holy Spirit, enliven the church to speak your words of forgiveness in every language. Pour out your spirit on peoples of all ages, genders, and nationalities.
Hear us, O God.
Your Mercy is great.
Come, Holy Spirit. Dispel human arrogance and establish leaders who are humble of heart. Speak peace into all of the world to overcome prejudice and fear. We pray for the Ukraine and Russia in this time of violent conflict. Move us to support organizations that provide aid internationally.
Hear us, O God.
Your Mercy is Great.
Come, Holy Spirit. You hear us when we cry to you. Bring meaning and hope to those living with dementia, anxiety, depression or addiction. Provide your comforting presence to any who are ill or feel weak or worn, we pray especially for Jennifer, Patty, Maya, Stephen, Bill, Grace, Art, Eberhard, John, Marlene and Ruby, Kirsti, Dave, Gladys, Inge, Miranda and Norman
Hear us, O God.
Your Mercy is Great.
Come, Holy Spirit. Reveal your love through families of all shapes and sizes. Bring joy to the carers, teachers, and learners within them. Bless extended families, chosen families, foster families, and spiritual families. That they may be a comfort and safe haven for one another.

We lift these and all our prayers to you, O God. Come near to us with your saving spirit, for the sake of Jesus Christ. Amen

Eucharistic Prayer Pastor Daniela
We give you thanks, holy God,
for sending your Son Jesus, into the world.
Though poor, he is rich in mercy and grace.
Though rejected by the world, he welcomes all to his side.
Though dying on the cross, he rose from death to bring new life.
Through him you are with us and make us your own.
On the night in which he was betrayed, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples saying, “Take and eat. This is my body given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper he took a cup of wine, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
Remembering, therefore, his life, death, and resurrection, we await your promised life for all this thirsty world.
Fill us with your spirit that with truly thankful hearts we may not only thank you with our lips, but with our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen
