This Sunday, March 18, many of the blankets that the Sewing Group creates every Tuesday in our basement will be displayed at worship and at Coffee Hour following worship, and God’s blessing on the blankets and the hands that have made them will be prayed for before they are shipped out in April.
The Sewing Group is made up of volunteers from our church and the community. Every Tuesday, this incredible and industrious production team comes together to sort, cut, sew, and store materials to be sent around the world through Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR). This year, the blankets will be sent to the M’bera refugee camp in Mauritania (west Africa) where more than 50,000 people have fled violent conflict in neighbouring Mali. More than half the population of the camp are children.
Together with over 1,000 blankets, the Sewing Group has also prepared over 200 sundresses and shorts, and assembled items for teacher kits, baby bundles, and school and hygiene supplies for the CLWR We Care kits.
The Sewing Group receives support from an ELCIC Women of Faith grant as well as a grant from the city of Brantford. Additionally, donations of fabric and sewing supplies come in from people all over the city throughout the year.
We are so grateful for the work that the Sewing Group does to bring comfort and hope to so many people around the world. Please join us for this special blessing at 10:00 AM this Sunday.
