BAPTISM OF OUR LORD
January 8, 2023
Gathering
Welcome and Land Acknowledgement:
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thanksgiving for Baptism:
We give you thanks, O God,
for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters
and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight. Through the waters of the flood, you delivered Noah and his family. Through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river, your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By Water and your word, you claim us as daughters and sons, making us heirs of your promise and servants of all.
Gathering Hymn: ELW 423 Shall we Gather at the River?
Prayer of the Day:
O God our Father, at the baptism of Jesus you proclaimed him your beloved son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit. Help all who are baptized into Christ faithful to their callings and empower us all with your compassionate spirit. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

The Voice of God in a Great Storm
Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord, over mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
The voice of the Lord causes the oaks to whirl[b]
and strips the forest bare,
and in his temple all say, “Glory!”
May the Lord give strength to his people!
May the Lord bless his people with peace!
Gospel Acclamation: ELW 512 Lord Let My Heart Be Good Soil

Sermon:
Hymn of the Day: ELW 455 Crashing Waters at Creation
Apostle’s Creed: P.127
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day, he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen
