ANNOUNCEMENTS

Confession and Forgiveness: p. 211

Blessed be the holy trinity, one God, who forgives all our sin, whose mercy endures forever.

Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open, all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hid:

Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,

That we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen.

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

Gracious God,

have mercy on us, we confess that we have turned from you

and given ourselves into the power of sin.

We are truly sorry and humbly repent.

In your compassion, forgive us our sins, known and unknown,

things we have done, things we have failed to do.

Turn us again to you, and uphold us by your spirit,

so that we may live and serve you in newness of life.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin and made us alive together with Christ.

By grace you have been saved. In the name of Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven.

Almighty God strengthen you with power through the holy spirit,

that Christ may live in your hearts through faith.

Amen.

Gathering Hymn: God is here #526 1,2,4

https://drive.google.com/drive/search?q=god%20is%20here

1 God is here! As we your people
meet to offer praise and prayer,
may we find in fuller measure
what it is in Christ we share.
Here, as in the world around us,
all our varied skills and arts
wait the coming of the Spirit
into open minds and hearts.

2 Here are symbols to remind us
of our lifelong need of grace;
here are table, font, and pulpit;
here the cross has central place.
Here in honesty of preaching,
here in silence, as in speech,
here, in newness and renewal,
God the Spirit comes to each.

4 Lord of all, of church and kingdom,
in an age of change and doubt,
keep us faithful to the gospel;
help us work your purpose out.
Here, in this day’s dedication,
all we have to give, receive;
we, who cannot live without you,
we adore you! We believe!

Prayer of the Day: Assistant Minister – Gigi Todd

Let us pray together the prayer of the day.

God of heaven and earth,

Before the foundation of the universe and the beginning of time you are the triune God: Author of creation, Eternal Word of salvation, Life-giving spirit of wisdom. Guide us by your spirit, that we may live in your light and rejoice in your grace. Praise to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Word

First Reading: Proverbs 8:22-31 Reader – Sandy Kunej

Info: In the Bible, Wisdom has many faces. It is portrayed as both human and divine and, most commonly, female. In this passage, woman wisdom is depicted not only as the first creation of God, but also as God’s helper, rejoicing in God’s creation.

Wisdom’s Part in Creation:

22 “The Lord created me at the beginning of his work,
    the first of his acts of long ago.
23 Ages ago I was set up,
    at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
24 When there were no depths I was brought forth,
    when there were no springs abounding with water.
25 Before the mountains had been shaped,
    before the hills, I was brought forth,
26 when he had not yet made earth and fields
    or the world’s first bits of soil.
27 When he established the heavens, I was there;
    when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
28 when he made firm the skies above,
    when he established the fountains of the deep,
29 when he assigned to the sea its limit,
    so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
30     then I was beside him, like a master worker,
and I was daily his delight,
    playing before him always,
31 playing in his inhabited world
    and delighting in the human race.

Reader: “Word of God, Word of Life” ……Thanks be to God.

Psalm: 8 (Read Responsively) Reader – Sandy Kunej

O Lord, our Sovereign,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.
    Out of the mouths of babes and infants
you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,
    to silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
    the moon and the stars that you have established;
what are humans that you are mindful of them,    mortals that you care for them?

Yet you have made them a little lower than Divine beings
    and crowned them with glory and honor.
You have given them responsibility over the works of your hands;    you have put all things under their feet,
all sheep and oxen,
    and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,    whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Sovereign,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Reader- Sandy Kunej “Please rise as you are able for the Gospel acclamation found on page 188”

Gospel Acclamation: p.188

Alleluia. Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia. Alleluia, alleluia. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel: John 16:12-15 Reader – Sandy Kunej

Glory to You, O Lord

Info: Jesus’ ongoing presence with the disciples will be borne by the coming spirit, who will guide them and communicate to them Jesus’ will and glory.

12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

Reader: “The Gospel of the Lord”… Praise to you, O Christ

Sermon: Vicar Bethan

Hymn of the Day: Spirit of Gentleness #396 1,2,3

https://drive.google.com/drive/search?q=spirit%20of%20gentleness

Refrain:

Spirit, Spirit of gentleness, blow through the wilderness calling and free; Spirit, Spirit of restlessness, stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.

1.You moved on the waters, you called to the deep,

then you coaxed up the mountains from the valleys of sleep;

and over the eons you called to each thing;

“Awake from your slumbers and rise on your wings.”

2.You swept through the desert, you stung with the sand,

and you goaded your people with a law and a land;

and when they are blinded with idols and lies,

then you spoke through your prophets to open their eyes.

3.You sang in a stable, you cried from a hill,

then you whispered in silence when the whole world was still;

and down in the city you called once again,

when you blew through your people on the rush of the wind.

Apostle’s Creed: Vicar Bethan

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day, he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.  Amen

Prayers of Intercession: Assistant Minister – Gigi Todd

Joining our voices with God’s people around the world, let us offer our prayers for those in need:

For the majesty of creation: The moon and stars that enlighten the night, the birds that inhabit the sky, and the fish that reside in the seas. That all creatures flourish together,

Let us pray.

Have mercy O God.

For the church throughout the world and here in our community: That the work of the spirit unite us in Christ to heal, love, and journey together. We pray that we may find comfort in one another instead of crisis and that we can join together to bring peace to all.

Let us pray.

Have mercy O God.

For all levels of government: for wisdom and truth displayed in world leaders, and for international relief agencies. We pray for the people in Ukraine, Russia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Yemen, and all countries in the midst or wake of war. We pray that God’s love poured into our hearts extend to all peoples and nations,

Let us pray.

Have mercy O God.

For the sick, that they are comforted: for the despairing, that they receive hope, for infants and children, that they be granted nurturing caretakers, and for all who cry to God in any need…especially Jennifer, Patty, Maya, Stephen, Bill, Grace, Art, Eberhard. John, Marlene and Ruby, Norman, Kirsti, Gladys, Inge and Miranda.

Let us pray.

Have mercy O God.

Merciful God, you hear the prayers of your people even before they are spoken. We commend these and all prayers to you, trusting in your grace and mercy. Through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Lord’s Prayer: Assistant Minister – Gigi Todd

We will now pray together as Jesus has taught us:

C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever.  Amen

Thanksgiving for the Word

Canticle of Thanksgiving: p.219

Thanksgiving for the Word: Vicar Bethan

Almighty God,

we thank you for the gift of your holy word.

May it be a lantern to our feet,

a light upon our paths,

and a strength to our lives.

Take us and use us

to love and serve all people

The Word of life which was from the beginning

we proclaim to you.

The darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining;

the Word of life which was from the beginning.

That which we heard, which we saw with our eyes,and touched with our hands,

we proclaim to you.

For our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

 The Word of life, which was from the beginning, we proclaim to you.

Amen

1. Holy God, we praise your name; Lord of all, we bow before you.

All on earth your scepter claim, all in heav’n above adore you.

Infinite your vast domain, everlasting is your reign.

2. Hark! The glad celestial hymn angel choirs above are raising;

cherubim and seraphim, in unceasing chorus praising,

fill the heav’ns with sweet accord: “Holy , holy, holy Lord!”

4. Holy Father, holy Son, Holy Spirit, three we name you,

though in essence only one; undivided God we claim you and, adoring,

bend the knee while we own the mystery
