February 21 – Scout Sunday

Gathering

Welcome

Gathering Song                              We Have a God Who Keeps Us

  1. We have a God who keeps us on the road that we should go

By whatever name we call him, he’s the One that we all know

He is Father, Christ our Saviour, Holy Spirit, light and guide

Our one and only Lord.

Chorus:

We will praise his name forever,

We will praise his name forever,

We will praise his name forever,

Our one and only Lord.

  • With our brothers and our siters, every colour, race, and creed

There is Guiding, there is Scouting, in all countries that are free

Every Ranger, every Pathfinder can go to him in need,

Our one and only Lord.

  • He’s the God of very Beaver, Spark, and Venturer, and Cub

And he shows the Scouts and brownies how to pass around his love,

As he leads the Guides and Rovers and all people everywhere,

Our one and only Lord.

  • He’s the one who leads our Founder to that isle across the sea

There to plant the little acorn that became the great oak tree

That is spreading out from Brownsea down the years to you and me

Our one and only Lord.

Greeting

P:         The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

And also with you.

Prayer of the Day

P:         Let us pray,

O God, your graciousness is always to be trusted.
Help us to be disciples who are loyal and true.
You are an ever-present help to all who seek you.
Help us to reach out in friendship and courtesy with the good news of your love.
Your kindness extends to all generations.
Help us to be obedient and cheerful followers in the paths where you lead us.
Not wanting or wasting, you rule the world with grace and love.
Give us the courage to be your people in a hostile world. Give us hearts that are clean and pure with your love. Give us a true reverence for you, O God of all that is.

For we pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen

Gospel

P:         The holy gospel according to Mark, the 1st chapter.

Glory to you, O Lord.

9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.’

12 And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13He was in the wilderness for forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.

14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.’

The gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, O Christ.

Sermon                                             The Reverend Michael Diegel

Hymn of the Day                           Ezekiel”

  1. Ezekiel saw two wheels a rolling, way in the middle of the air

A wheel within a wheel a rolling way in the middle of the air

And the big one ran by faith and the little one ran by the grace of God

Ezekiel saw two wheels a rolling, way in the middle of the air

  • Ezekiel heard two bells a tolling, way in the middle of the air

A bell with a bell a tolling way in the middle of the air

And the big one ran by faith and the little one ran by the grace of God

Ezekiel heard two bells a tolling, way in the middle of the air

  • Ezekiel saw two flames a burning, way in the middle of the air

A flame within a flame a burning way in the middle of the air

And the big one ran by faith and the little one ran by the grace of God

Ezekiel saw two flames a burning, way in the middle of the air
