TRANSFIGURATION February 19, 2023

Welcome, Land Acknowledgement, Announcements: Call to Worship: As the Deer (See Music Insert)

Thanksgiving for Baptism:

We give you thanks, O God,

for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters

and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which

you took delight. Through the waters of the flood, you delivered Noah and his family. Through the sea you led your people Israel from

slavery into freedom. At the river, your Son was baptized by John and

anointed with the Holy Spirit. By Water and your word, you claim us as daughters and sons, making us heirs of your promise and servants of all.

Gathering Hymn: Listen God is Calling ELW 513

Prayer of the Day:

Our God, in the transfiguration of your son, you showed the true image of God to those witnesses brought forward, Moses and Elijah. Help us to see the whole image of Christ in all people and offer our support and compassion. Your spirit shows us the way to true fulfillment in you. Amen.

Response to “Merciful God:” Receive Our Prayer.

Lord’s Prayer: p. 134

We believe in Jesus Christ, Our saviour and liberator, the expression of God’s redeeming and restoring love,

the mark of humanness, source of courage, power, and love, God of God, light of light, ground of our humanity.

We believe that God resides in slums, lives in broken homes and hearts,

suffers our loneliness, rejection, and powerlessness.

But through death and resurrection God gives life, pride, and dignity, provides the content of our vision, offers the context of our struggle,

promises liberation to the oppressor and the oppressed, hope to those in despair, vision to the blind.

We believe in the activity of the Holy Spirit who revives our decaying soul,

resurrects our defeated spirits, renews our hope of wholeness

and reminds us of our responsibility

in ushering in God’s new order here and now.

Offertory Hymn: Blessed be your Name (See Music Insert)

Sharing of the Peace: Installation of Council:

Benediction Blessing: The Living, Disturbing God” – Claudio Carvalhaes

Let us go in peace with the living, disturbing God:

To disrupt those who are comfortable, Comfort those who mourn,

And walk alongside those who suffer.

Now receive the blessing of God all-loving: God our Mother who holds us in our pain,

God our brother, Jesus the Christ, who gives us courage to resist, And God the Spirit who binds us together in all that is free.
